FUNCTIONAL FOODS

FUNCTIONAL FOODS are tangible evidence of the historic changes taking place around the whole issue of nutrition. Functional foods, over and beyond the intrinsic nutritional value provided by the carbohydrates, fat and proteins they contain, are required to have a beneficial effect on human health, to maintain a state of wellbeing or to be capable of preventing the onset of certain pathologies.

WHY?

In our body one of the basic systems responsible for regulating physical wellbeing is undoubtedly linked to the INTEGRITY of the so-called “INTESTINAL MICROFLORA”.
It is therefore essential to keep this microflora functioning efficiently, as a genuine additional organ of the body to be nourished and kept “in shape”.

HOW?

Through the use of ”FUNCTIONAL FOODS” !
Their scope is to maintain the balance of the intestinal microflora through the introduction of specific selected bacteria, known as “probiotic enzymes and bacteria”, able to cross the gastrointestinal barrier intact and settle and colonise inside the colon.

WHAT DO THEY CONSIST OF?

PROBIOTIC FOOD

The bacteria which cross the gastric and bilious barrier intact to reach the intestine alive and viable are called probiotic (from pro-bios = in favour of life);
they settle and colonise there;
they are recognised by the body because they are of human origin;
they have a positive effect on the bacterial flora of the intestine, combating dangerous bacteria, including Helicobacter pilori, responsible for gastritis and peptic ulcers;
they reinforce immune defence systems;
In order to be effective the probiotic bacteria must reach the intestinal cavities, surviving the effects of gastric acids in the stomach.

PREBIOTIC FOOD

A non digestible component of food which brings benefits to the host through the improvement of health, thanks to the selective stimulation of growth and/or the activity of a single or of a limited number of bacterial strains living inside the colon.

SYMBIOTIC FOOD
A symbiotic food is defined as a synergetic association between a probiotic food and a probiotic food, capable of bringing benefits to health thanks to the combined effect of the selective stimulation of growth and/or activation of the metabolism of the added bacteria (probiotic), promoting health and the useful micro-organisms present within the body.

Within the context of its programme to comply with European directives, yo live, the leader in its market sector, has introduced special healthy components into its products, thus making them fully worthy of definition as an example of COMPLETE FUNCTIONAL SYMBIOTIC FOODS.

The attention of our Research and Development department is directed above all to effectively complying with current European indications as regards a BALANCED DIETARY REGIME.
A healthy diet is indeed based on the correct proportions and on the distribution of the nutritional elements indispensable for life over the day.

For example, a balanced diet suitable for a person weighing 60/70 kg with a standard job involves the introduction of around 1800-2000 calories over a period of 24 hours, distributed as follows:
60-70% of calories should come from carbohydrates
20-30% of calories should come from fat
10-20% of calories should come from protein

Cremosofor this reason we decided to include in the range of our products “CREMOSO” .
